EATucation empowers teachers with ready-made food literacy resources for every school setting.
We offer full teaching units for Food Technology and Food & Nutrition - plus cross-curricular resources that link to Health & PE, Social Sciences, Literacy, and Numeracy.
With 55 engaging, curriculum-aligned lessons designed for both specialist food teachers and classroom kaiako in Years 7-8, everything you need is ready to teach.
We have the responsibility and the means to ensure every tamariki in Aotearoa grows up food literate.
Food literacy is a taonga, one that strengthens lifelong health, builds more resilient communities, and reduces our collective impact on Te Taiao. Yet, due to systemic disparities and changing societal norms, we’re seeing a decline in food literacy, with 30% of premature deaths linked to diet.
It takes just one generation to lose a taonga and three to reclaim it. EATucation exists to reverse this trend.
By increasing the time tamariki spend learning about food, we can create a future where every child is equipped to make informed choices, care for themselves and others, and thrive in a changing world. Research shows that regular, bite-sized lessons in food and environmental literacy, starting in early childhood - lead to better academic, behavioural, and health outcomes. The time to act is now. Together, we can nourish a food-literate nation.
Would you like food literacy to be a school-wide focus?
When your school signs up for the EATucation program, both specialist foods teachers and classroom teachers get full access to our entire range of resources. These include units designed specifically for Food Technology and Food & Nutrition teachers, as well as units that connect food literacy to other curriculum areas that classroom teachers can use throughout the year - all of which connect to the Literacy & Numeracy curriculums! This means students can hit the ground running when they do their food rotation!
Do you wish you could use food literacy as a context and topic to teach other curriculum areas?
Everyone eats every day, and food connects us, touching every aspect of our lives; the gift of food literacy is a gift for life. That's why we've connected food literacy to the subjects you already teach. From PE & Health to Social Sciences, Literacy & Numeracy, we've got you covered with ready-made resources that save you time, increase engagement, and connect the curriculum to the life skills students need to build their food literacy one bite-sized lesson at a time.
How about some te reo, relief lessons and whānau packs to sweeten the deal?
Every kura that joins EATucation receives full access to our entire resource suite, including te reo Māori activities and ngā tikanga o ngā kai, to honour and reflect the diverse identities of our ākonga. We also include relief lessons, so food literacy never needs to pause when things get busy.
To extend learning beyond the classroom, EATucation includes take-home whānau packs that support tamariki to share their knowledge with whānau and put food literacy into practice at home.
At EATucation, we don’t charge per unit, your subscription gives your whole school access to everything!
Food literacy is a challenge we can meet - together. With the right tools and support, every kaiako can confidently deliver this essential learning, and every tamariki can grow up to become a food literate leader in their community.
