EATucation supports kaiako with ready-made, Te Whāriki-aligned food literacy lessons for ECE centres.
Our engaging 32-lesson program reflect the identity, language, and culture of your tamariki - helping them explore kai, connect with whānau, and build a lifelong positive relationship with food.
We have the responsibility and the means to ensure every tamariki in Aotearoa grows up food literate.
Food literacy is a taonga, one that strengthens lifelong health, builds more resilient communities, and reduces our collective impact on Te Taiao. Yet, due to systemic disparities and changing societal norms, we’re seeing a decline in food literacy, with 30% of premature deaths linked to diet.
It takes just one generation to lose a taonga and three to reclaim it. EATucation exists to reverse this trend.
By increasing the time tamariki spend learning about food, we can create a future where every child is equipped to make informed choices, care for themselves and others, and thrive in a changing world. Research shows that regular, bite-sized lessons in food and environmental literacy, starting in early childhood - lead to better academic, behavioural, and health outcomes. The time to act is now. Together, we can nourish a food-literate nation.
Do you wish you could give your tamariki the gift of food literacy but can't find the time?
As food literacy declines, educators are under more pressure than ever - but the solution doesn’t have to add to your workload. EATucation provides ready-made, fully resourced, Te Whāriki-aligned activities that build tamariki food literacy through hands-on play and games.
It’s everything you need to teach food literacy with confidence and ease.
Would you like to connect food literacy to Te Whāriki?
Our flexible program connects food literacy to the strands and principles you already deliver, making it easy to integrate into the day. With a balanced mix of practical and theory-based activities, tamariki can engage with real-world learning while developing lifelong skills!
Our resources draw on the bioecological model and sociocultural theories to prioritise relational teaching strategies and games-based learning.
How about some te reo Māori, ngā tikanga o ngā kai, and whānau packs to sweeten the deal?
Every centre that joins EATucation receives full access to our entire resource suite, including te reo Māori activities and ngā tikanga o ngā kai, to honour and reflect the diverse identities of our ākonga.
To extend learning beyond the classroom, EATucation includes take-home whānau packs that support tamariki to share their knowledge with whānau and put food literacy into practice at home.
At EATucation, we don’t charge per unit, your subscription gives your whole centre access to everything!
Food literacy is a challenge we can meet - together. With the right tools and support, every kaiako can confidently deliver this essential learning, and every tamariki can grow up to become a food literate leader in their community.

Every staff member in your centre! We have units that any teacher in any centre can use, each connecting food to a different curriculum area, and each lesson has Structured Literacy & Numeracy connections!
