Hospitality Consent to Assess Applications & Planning

If you're planning to submit a Consent to Assess application, please aim to do so by 1 September 2025. While Ringa Hora will still accept and process applications after this date, they can't guarantee they'll be processed before the NZQA deadline or their wind-down at year-end.

Where to Find What You Need

We have pulled together the following useful links and information. If we've left off a link, please let us know, and we'll add it to our kete

Consent to Assess (CTA)

NOTE: Level 1 Hospitality is part of the Base Scope of Assessment for Schools (BSAS) - this means there is no requirement to extend your Consent to Assess (CTA) beyond the BSAS. If you are thinking of starting a Hospitality program at your school, this is a great place to start! For all your program delivery & teaching needs - check out our Level 1 Hospitality program! From there, you can expand into Level 2 and 3 in subsequent years.

More on the BSAS can be found here.

NOTE: Level 3 Hospitality - Not all Unit Standards at Level 3 require a commercial kitchen.

How to find out your existing Consent to Assess:

Simply search your school name here on the NZQA website in the 'Search Word' field, or watch this video for other ways to check your existing Consent to Assess.

Understanding Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMR):

All the Unit Standards we offer on the EATucation program fall under the newly updated CMR0112 – V8. This may seem like a complex document at first glance, but rest assured we've done the pre-reading for you:

  • Many of these requirements will be covered by your school's existing Professional Development and moderation practices. Please check this against your school's policies and practices, but you should be pleasantly surprised!
  • CMR0112 – V8 covers a range of industries; the introductory pages you need to read are: Pages 1-5 and the pages specific to Hospitality are: Pages 18-19. The remaining pages relate to other industries and can be disregarded.
  • Page 2 - Developing Assessments - As part of the EATucation program, you receive all your pre-moderated assessments (along with all your teaching resources), meaning you don't need to develop your own

Expanding your Consent to Assess:

If you have submitted a CTA application to Ringa Hora in the last 3 years, have had no significant changes at your school, and are simply looking to add some additional standards that are similar to those you already have consent for, then Ringa Hora will likely have most of the relevant documentation on file so just check what extra information is needed.

If you have not submitted a CTA application to Ringa Hora in the last 3 years, please see the links below.

The following links provide information for schools that want to assess against standards that aren't included in the Base Scope of Assessment for Schools (BSAS) and which they do not currently have Consent to Assess:
